GSA Welcomes Guest Author

The Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) at Manlius Pebble Hill School has invited Alex Myers, to speak to at school assemblies to Middle and Upper School students on March 15. Alex is the author of the historical fiction novel, Revolutionary, based on the life of his ancestor, Deborah Sampson, who disguised herself as a male during the Revolutionary War.

A writer and public speaker, Mr. Myers is also an English teacher at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, where he attended high school. Born as “Alice,” Mr. Myers was the first openly transgender student in the Academy’s history. He continued his education at Harvard University, and there, he was also the first transgender student.  In his debut novel, he uses the story of his ancestor to tell his own story of being transgender. At MPH, he will speak about his story, acceptance, and allowing others to be individuals.

Alex was recently featured on the PBS News Hour: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/extra/daily_videos/educator-explains-what-it-means-to-be-transgender/
