MPH senior wins national award for article on Skaneateles recruiting scandal

Manlius Pebble Hill School senior Will Kniesner, of Jamesville, has been named a National Winner in the 2013 International Writing and Photo Contest. He is one of 26 winning entries among 242 submitted sports stories.

The annual competition is sponsored by the Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists and the American Society of News Editors’ High School Journalism Initiative, hsj.org.

Kniesner, who is executive editor of MPH’s student newspaper, The Rolling Stone, was declared a “gold award” National Winner in the Sports Writing category for his story, “Scandal-ateles.” The article discussed the 2011 Skaneateles recruiting scandal.

“Scandal-ateles” appeared on page eight in the May 2012 issue of The Rolling Stone.

As a winner, Kniesner is now eligible to apply for a Quill and Scroll Scholarship in Journalism. Those scholarships are awarded during the freshman year of college to students who intend to major in journalism or communications.
