CNY student one of six in nation to win top prize in Disney contest

Maxwell Fung, 11, of North Syracuse – a sixth grader at Manlius Pebble Hill School in DeWitt- is one of six to win a top prize in the national Disney and X-Prize “Create Tomorowland” competition.

He was one of six top prize winners from around the United States.

Fung’s winning concept for an invention is about a nanobot that blocks pain during a surgical operation. It is called “The Era of Pain is Over.”

The S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art , Math) oriented challenge asked students to imagine themselves in the future reporting back to the present and telling the world about one new and amazing invention or innovation they encountered.

More than 600 entries were recieved.

Fung wins $3,000, a 3-D printer, a camera, membership in Disney’s creativity initiative, registration for the Lego league, and entrance into the Disney mentorship program, where he will get to talk with experts in several fields.
