Eighth grader brings home the gold at Karate and Kickboxing World Championships
Eighth grader Andrew Warren traveled to the Karate and Kickboxing World Championships last week and returned home victorious! Held in Orlando, FL, Andrew competed in the boys 13-14 age group against competitors from all over the world. He qualified for the USA team in five categories: traditional forms, classical forms, Korean forms, traditional weapons and team Kata, by placing in the top four at the National Championships that took place in Detroit last June.
At the Worlds, all competitors competed on Monday in the qualifying rounds, and the top four in each event moved on to the medal round. The scores were then erased and those four competitors competed again on Thursday to see who would win the medals. Andrew made it into the medal round in two of his five events, and won gold in Korean forms and silver in Team Kata.
Congratulations to Andrew on this remarkable accomplishment!
