Driver Education and SAT Preparation
Summer 2021 – Registration is now open!
Driver Education begins June 28 and runs through August 22. Students must be 16 years old by June 28 and possess a valid driving permit. All theory classes will be offered through Google Classroom. Theory classes will be pre-recorded and will be posted every Monday for 8 weeks. The classes will include lecture, videos, and assignments to be completed each week.
Textbooks will be required and provided, and there will be a $50 fee charged to your account if the book is not returned at the end of the course. Books will be available for in-person pickup at MPH (in June), or a $10 fee will be charged to mail the textbook to your home.
During the pandemic, the state is currently not allowing behind-the-wheel instruction by our Driver Education instructors. However, the state will allow the 24 hours of in-vehicle instruction may be completed under the supervision of a parent/guardian holding a valid NY State Driver’s License. Students must complete a driving session each week. We will help with the lesson goals and you will be able to contact a Driver Education instructor for additional guidance, if needed. A driving checklist will be provided, along with videos introducing you to each lesson. A statement of completion must be submitted each week.
Our summer course requires three hours of theory class work assignments and three hours of driving lessons per week. Please be aware of the time requirements prior to registering.
Upon completion of the course, students will receive an MV-285 Student Certificate of Completion from New York State. This certificate includes the NY pre-licensing 5-hour course requirements, an insurance reduction certificate, and allows 17-year-old drivers to upgrade to a senior license.
It is important to recognize the value of maintaining integrity during this process. Our goal is to teach our students to be the most responsible, safe drivers possible.
