Driver Education and SAT Preparation – Online Only

Winter/Spring 2022 – Registration is now open!

Driver Education

Driver Education begins January 31 and runs through May 20. Students must be 16 years old by January 31 and possess a valid driving permit. All theory classes will be offered through Google Classroom. Theory classes will be offered weekly as a combination of pre-recorded chapter reviews, to be posted every Monday. The weekly class will also include a posted assignment and quiz to be completed each week. There will be an opportunity for the students to connect with the instructor during live sessions offered weekly as a question/answer session (times TBD).

Textbooks will be required and provided, and there will be a $50 fee charged to your account if the book is not returned at the end of the course. Books will be available for in-person pickup at MPH, or a $10 fee will be charged to mail the textbook to your home.

We are currently not able to offer behind-the-wheel instruction by our driver education instructors. The 24 hours of in-vehicle instruction must be completed under the supervision of a parent/guardian holding a valid NY State Driver’s License. Students must complete a driving session each week. We will help with the lesson goals, and you will be able to contact a Driver Education instructor for additional guidance, if needed. A driving checklist will be provided, along with videos introducing you to each lesson, and a drive log must be submitted each week.

Our course requires 1.5 hours of class work assignments and 1.5 hours of driving lessons per week. Please be aware of the time requirements prior to registering.

Upon completion of the course, students will receive an MV-285 Student Certificate of Completion from New York State. This certificate includes the NY pre-licensing 5-hour course requirements, an insurance reduction certificate, and allows 17-year-old drivers to upgrade to a senior license.

It is important to recognize the value of maintaining integrity during this process. Our goal is to teach our students to be the most responsible, safe drivers possible.
