MPH’s Ridall wins 500th soccer game

Leading off today: Manlius Pebble Hill boys soccer coach Don Ridall picked up his 500th career victory Monday with a 6-2 win against Bishop Ludden. Richie Medina scored a pair of goals in the contest.

“I’d be lying if I said this didn’t mean anything,” said Ridall, who is in his 36th season on the job. “It is special. There were a lot of parents and former players at the game, and I’ve received just a ton of (text) messages since it ended.”

After a 1-8-1 mark in his first season, Ridall’s teams won state championships in 2000 and 2001 and six Section 3 titles. He is second to Mount Markham’s Charlie Engle (597) on the list of active Section 3 soccer coaches.
