Visual Arts at Manlius Pebble Hill

At Manlius Pebble Hill, the visual arts are for everyone. Our program is built on the belief that every student has a creative voice worth developing – and that the process of learning to see, make, and reflect through art enriches every other part of a student’s life. Whether you are picking up a pencil for the first time or arriving with years of studio experience, the MPH visual arts program gives you the space, the guidance, and teh challenge to grow as an artist.

A Program Built For Every Student

From foundational courses to advanced studio work, the MPH visual arts curriculum is designed to meet students at every level and take them further. Beginning students develop core skills in drawing, composition, and design – building the visual literacy that underpins all artistic practice. More experienced artists dive deeper into technique, concept, and personal expression, working with greater independence and intention. At every level, instruction is thoughtful, individualized, and focused on genuine growth rather than simple completing projects.

Exploring A Wide Range Of Media

One of the defining features of the MPH visual arts program is its breadth. Students have the opportunity to work across a wide variety of media and techniques – from drawing, painting, and printmaking to sculpture, mixed media, and digital work. This exposure encourages students to experiment, take risks, and discover which forms of expression resonate most deeply with them. Trying new things is not just allowed at MPH – it is encouraged.

What Students Gain

The MPH visual arts program develops students across creative, intellectual, and personal dimensions. Students build:

  • Technical skills across a broad range of media and artistic disciplines
  • Visual literacy and the ability to observe, analyze, and interpret the world around them
  • Creative confidence and a willingness to experiment and take artistic risks
  • Critical thinking skills developed through concept development and artistic reflection
  • A body of work that documents their growth and expresses who they are

From MPH to Beyond

For students who wish to pursue the visual arts beyond MPH, our program provides a strong foundation. Advanced students develop portfolios suitable for college arts programs and competitions, guided by faculty who understand both the academic and professional pathways available to young artists. But whether a student goes on to study art formally or simply carries a lifelong appreciation for making things, the MPH visual arts program gives them something lasting.
