In accordance with the MPHMUN 2020 conference theme of “Global Partnership for Peace and Justice” and in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent surge of social justice activism in the United States, we have selected The Syracuse Center for Peace and Social Justice as our official conference charity. We are proud to partner with and show our support for a local organization that has done so much for our community.
The Syracuse Center for Peace and Social Justice was founded in 2007 by activists in central New York with the goal of offering affordable housing for local social justice organizations. By hosting many of the leading organizations for social justice in Syracuse under one roof, the SCPSJ gives organizations the opportunity to share resources and collaborate for social change. The Center also acts as a fiscal sponsor for groups, offering their legal and tax-exempt status to those under their umbrella. These organizations fight for justice in our local community and are only a short drive from Manlius Pebble Hill.
Organizations housed in the Center include:
- Syracuse Peace Council
- Public Citizen
- Alliance for a Green Economy
- Black Lives Matter
- Syracuse Alternative Media Network
- The Workers Center of Central New York
- New York Immigration Coalition
This year, MPHMUN will be collecting monetary donations through GoFundMe as well as donations in time commitment for the SCPSJ or any of the other organizations housed within it. Instead of Jar Wars, committees will aim for 100% participation in donations for a reward set by their Chairs.
